Virginia, one of the southern states of the United States. It fronts on Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, and is bordered by Maryland, the District of Columbia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Virginia is roughly triangular in shape and ranks 35th in size in the nation.
